With an illustrious career spanning decades, Coach Tamayo is the former Head Coach of Stanford Judo (1994 – 2020) and holds a prestigious Rokudan (6th-degree black belt).
Born and raised in San Francisco, he discovered his love for judo at the young age of 6 and quickly rose through the ranks to achieve his black belt by 17.
Coach Tamayo has an impressive list of personal achievements, such as:

- 5x California State Champion
- 5th Place US Open
- Sambo World Champion
